About Us

Meet Joe Gibson

Attorney, Joe Gibson

Our employer clients have ranged from the small “Mom and Pop” operation to corporations with thousands of employees. They have also varied in scope from manufacturing to service-oriented businesses. We have represented them at all levels of administrative hearing, and in the court system.

Our injured worker clients are similarly diverse, and are from all areas of the work force. We have represented fctory workers, executives, clergy, truck drivers, and even concert roadies. In addition to here in the Buckeye State, we have clients in Indiana, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, California, and elsewhere. So geography knows no bounds to Gibson Law Offices and the Workers' Compensation services we provide.

Attorney Joseph E. Gibson was born in Dayton, Ohio in October of 1964. With the divorce of his parents in 1978 he moved with his mother to reside in the Middletown suburb of Madison Township. Madison Township is a rural/country region across the river to the northwest of Middletown itself, and the home of “West Middletown, Ohio”. This country environment had clean air and quiet nights and very down to earth people. Joe graduated from Middletown Madison High School in 1983. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton in 1987, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Thereafter he was accepted into the University Dayton School of Law and graduated in 1990 with a Juris Doctor degree in the top one-fourth of his class.

Attorney Gibson started off his work history cutting grass to help the family pay bills and support himself in the hard times after his parents divorce. This also helped him pay for undergraduate and law school as well. The business “Gibson Lawn Service” was established in Middletown and ran for several years. Running his own business afforded him, at a relatively youthful age, to experience many opportunities in acquiring business sense and life skills. He then obtained employment at the law firm of Smith & Schnacke, a legal professional association with offices in Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, Orlando, Florida, and Brussels, Belgium. It was there that he first experienced Workers’ Compensation law. Smith & Schnacke was eventually acquired by the law firm of Thompson, Hine, & Flory, which still operates today. He then worked for the United States Department of Defense in the Air Force Contract Law Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In this capacity his duties included reviewing Contractor Officers’ decisions for “legal sufficiency”. He was also responsible for preparing cases for trial and argument before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals. After this he was hired by DAP, Inc. working in the corporate law area in their Tipp City, Ohio world headquarters. He was then appointed District Attorney for the Dayton District Office of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. He was employed as BWC attorney for five years representing the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation at all levels of administrative hearing. He also advised claims and risk staff on various questions of law policy and procedure. Also during this time he was an instructor at Sinclair Community College in Downtown Dayton, teaching political science. His teaching responsibility included courses in local, state, and Federal government. He was also employed as a paralegal studies instructor for Edison State Community College in Piqua where he taught business law and litigation. Not long after his appointment to Dayton, he was also appointed the double-duty of BWC Attorney for the Springfield Service Office as well. As BWC Attorney, Joe was responsible for the agency covering the Workers’ Compensation needs of nine counties in Ohio.

In 1994 Attorney Gibson was hired by the now-defunct law firm of Susco, Hecht, & DeRose in Downtown Dayton. The firm concentrated on Workers’ Compensation, Social Security, and personal injury matters as well as general practice areas such as divorce, DUI, and criminal law. Later that same year Attorney Gibson realized his desire to “hang out his own shingle” and set off on his own. It is then that he founded Gibson Law Offices as it is today. Known at first as “Joseph E. Gibson, Attorney at Law”, Attorney Gibson’s law practice was first located in the front office of his residence in Tipp City, Ohio. Seeing his clients in his den at his house allowed for a home-spun, personal touch that still exists today, despite our growth. The business grew, and eventually he established a storefront office location in Vandalia. When the office expanded due to more staff and clients in 1997, Attorney Gibson moved the practice to its present location, and the present name of “Gibson Law Offices” was adopted. In 1998, the Centerville office was opened on Franklin Street near Centerville High School. In 1999 the Middletown office was opened near the world headquarters of B/Tec Paper Inc. In 2010 the Centerville office was closed in favor of a location closer to the Industrial Commission's new hearing location in Fairborn. Now we can see clients at a facility that is located merely a few steps away from where hearings are held.

Attorney Gibson has been privileged to be the recipient of various honors and recognition for his civic and professional contributions to the community. For five years he was a part-time instructor at Sinclair Community College and received official recognition from the Humanities Department for these efforts. He was also appointed Chairman of the Dayton Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Committee and has held this position from 2005 to the present, serving an unprecedented four terms.

He is also a member of The Dayton Bar Association, The Miami County Bar Association, and Federal Bar. He is licensed to practice in all courts in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Supreme Court, and in the Federal District Court, for the Southern District of Ohio. He is a member of the Dayton Bar Association Ethics Committee. Since 2005, he has been the Chairman of the Dayton Bar Association Workers’ Compensation/Social Security Committee, having served six consecutive (and unprecedented) terms. He is a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Middletown Council #1610, and The Sons of the America Legion Post 668 in Vandalia. He is the City of Tipp City's ex-officio member of the Tipp City/Monroe Township Cable Access Commission, and a former Member of the Tipp City Planning Board. He is a Member of the Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce, and a frequent sponsor of downtown Tipp City events. He was a member of the Rotary International Group Study Exchange Program in 1991, where the Arab Republic of Egypt was the focus country. He has traveled to Egypt, Europe and the Middle-East extensively.

In 2007 Attorney Gibson was honored by The Dayton Bar Association for his outstanding service as Committee Chairman for the 2006-2007 term of the Workers’ Compensation/Social Security Committee. He has argued cases at the Common Pleas Court, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court of Ohio as well as in the Federal District Court. He has made presentations to juries and Court of Appeals panels and has delivered lectures to civic groups such as The Rotary International, The Chamber of Commerce, the BWC’s “Workers’ Compensation University”, the Dayton Bar Association, Optimists, and Lorman Seminars Inc.

In 2009 Attorney Gibson was elected to the City Council of his home town of Tipp City, Ohio. He earned the highest number of votes on record for 2009 election, and higher than any other top vote-getter since before 2000. He as sworn-in on January 4, 2010.

Attorney Gibson is humbled by the good fortune he has enjoyed and the gifts that life has bestowed upon him. He continues to work to give back to the clients, his community, and country all the good fortune that has been given to him from these entities. He thanks God and country for all.
