What to Expect

First Time Appointment

If you sustain a NEW INJURY at work, you should do the following:

  1. Notify your supervisor and submit a written incident report as soon as possible. If your employer does not issue a report form, or has not provided one to you, write down a description of your injury, copy it, and provide it to your boss and doctor.
  2. Obtain medical treatment as soon as possible, and provide an accurate description of the injury to your doctor.
  3. Contact your lawyer if you have one.

When you come in to Gibson Law Offices for the first time, we will ask you some basic questions and other information of you in our initial intake of paperwork. This is not unlike the first time you go to a doctor’s office when they hand you the clipboard and you try to tell them your life story on a few sheets of paper. This does, however, allow the attorney to efficiently utilize your time with him by focusing on the issues you are seeing him about. These questions are not meant to pry, or to get in to your private affairs, but are necessary in order to introduce yourself to our office. We will ask you to complete the paperwork as best as you can, and return it to the staff.

All initial appointments last about an hour. Attorney Gibson will be with you as soon as he can, but if he is running late, he will still try to give you at least an hour of his time. We apologize for any delays in appointments as some meetings may run long. Please be sure to bring with you any written items or other documentation concerning your claim. Also, be sure that we have your contact information as up-to-date as possible. We also would ask that you include your name, address, cell phone, fax number (if applicable), and e-mail if you have it. Also it would be wise to provide the name, address, and telephone number of a contact person who will always know your whereabouts. This is necessary in many cases because our clients are transient because of their work, family, or economic situation. As such, sometimes they move and we may have a hard time tracking them down. At the first appointment we will also go over your injury, review any written materials, and any other items relevant to your situation. Of course, there is no charge for the first appointment as these consultations are free. We will also be requesting a copy of your driver’s license for security, and identification purposes. The attorney will evaluate your situation, and give you his thoughts, impressions, and suggestions.
